July 24th, 2005. Jon and myself decided to venture out to Kennedy Meadows at the Sequoia National Forest. The Meadows are nestled at 7 to 8000 feet elevation, a great escape from the searing heat wave in the southland. Jon got a head start with his GMC truck, and decided to play on rocks and boulders as he waited at a rendezvous point by Randsburg. Unfortunately, Jon managed to bent his drive shaft and his truck was barely ridable...he decided to go on nontheless.
Visiting the meadows was a first for both Jon and myself, I knew a couple of KTM hard core riders awaiting our arrival at the Troy Meadows camp. Both Jon and myself were looking forward to this ride in the Alpine forest at 8000 feet. Shortly after we took the Kennedy Meadows turn from hwy 395, the tranny seal on Jon's truck blew spewing fluid all over the chassis.
The ride was over for Jon before it began. I was heart broken for him, to come all the way, a 4 hours drive from Orange County, and then get a blown tranny half an hour from your destination. BUMMER!! Jon contacted OnStar and he eventually got the truck towed to a GM repair facility in Ridgecrest. I continued on with an aching heart for him, hoping he'll find a safe way home. I was also hoping that the KTM hard core gang will be waiting my arrival as the hour pushed past the 10AM mark.
