Alabama Hills Camp
On the way to Lone Pine and the Alabama Hills. A quick visit to the Olancha OHV area and the Olancha Dunes, a site where many dune buggys frequent, especially in the fall month. I soon realized that a paddle rear tire on my dirtbike would've been more appropriate. The dunes were really sandy and I got stuck in several places....ouch!
Arriving at the Alabama Hills camp site, in the far distance are the snow covered peaks of the Eastern Sierra Nevada. Daytime temps ranged between 48 and 62 degrees, but at night; it got down below freezing...huh...I had to sleep in the car and turn the engine and heater on a couple of times to keep things warm...the night sky was remarkable, the snow covered peaks of the Sierras reflected moon light and the sceneray was legendary.
Sage brush surround the rugged terrain of the Alabama Hills, far in the distance are the peaks of the Inyo Mountains. These hills are reportedly older than the Sierra Nevada.....there is a heated debate about that within the scientific geological community!
